Auth, tools, and actions

Authentication: Requires Login. No special capability flags are currently listed. Current MCP inventory reports 9 tools, 0 resources, and 3 prompts.

  • Aggregate EduInsights measures · Read-only action

Returns grouped totals, counts, or ordered results for supported measures. It supports first-major completions and college counts with explicit dimensions, filters, periods, order, and limits. It computes only approved additive measures and counts.

  • Compare known entities · Read-only action

Returns a side-by-side comparison of two to 25 colleges, fields, or occupations. Inputs use matching UnitID, CIP-6, or SOC-6 identifiers. The server returns a consistent set of measures for the selected entity type.

  • Describe the EduInsights data · Read-only action

Describes the available data and one optional relation. With no topic, it returns the snapshot version, semantic_views catalog, row counts, and identifiers. With a table topic, it returns columns, record detail, and query notes.

  • Get a college profile · Read-only action

Returns a profile for one college identified by UnitID. Results include identity, current context, dated source fields, accreditation coverage, and leading reported fields of study.

  • Get an occupation profile · Read-only action

Returns a profile for one occupation identified by SOC-6. Results include employment, pay, outlook, observed AI use, source scope, and leading tasks. Leading tasks are ordered by observed AI use, then O*NET importance.

  • Get a program profile · Read-only action

Returns a reported field profile for one college, CIP-6 field, and optional award level. Results include college identity, first- and second-major completions, and available earnings and debt. Field outcomes may apply to a broader CIP-4 field. The response identifies that scope and any privacy suppression.

  • Get source and release details · Read-only action

Returns source-release and relation details for supplied IDs or relation names. It distinguishes a source release from the serving snapshot version.

  • Resolve names to canonical IDs · Read-only action

Matches a college, field, occupation, UnitID, CIP, or SOC query to UnitID, CIP-6, or SOC-6 identifiers. It searches names, aliases, locations, titles, and codes. Results include ordered candidates and context for disambiguation.

Plus 1 additional actions in the full tool inventory.

Server Instructions

EduInsights is public data on US colleges, programs, and the careers they lead to. Every answer can show its sources. For every new data question, call edu_describe_data with no topic first. Read semantic_views and choose the smallest marts.* relation at the required entity and native grain. Do not query marts.semantic_catalog directly. Then call edu_describe_data with topic='table:<schema>.<table>' for columns, semantic grain, and query guidance before writing SQL. Use core.* only when the catalog shows that no mart answers the question. Resolve names with edu_resolve_entity before filtering by UnitID, CIP, or SOC. Never guess an identifier. After resolution, use edu_get_institution for one college, edu_get_program for one college-field profile, and edu_get_occupation for one occupation. Use edu_compare for a side-by-side comparison of known identifiers, edu_aggregate for supported grouped totals and rankings, and edu_get_sources for exact source release details. For a single occupation's tasks or observed AI use, resolve the occupation to SOC-6, then call edu_get_occupation with task_limit=5. Its leading_tasks are already ordered by observed AI-use score. Use edu_run_sql only if this focused result cannot answer the requested task question. For a claimed value, retain the measure's source or release field, period, native grain, join path, applicability, and coverage reason when available. snapshot_version identifies the serving snapshot. It is not a measure's source release and cannot establish the measure's year. Keep one snapshot_version across one answer. If a later tool result reports a different snapshot_version, do not combine the results; repeat the affected research against the current release. Pair every identifier shown to a person with its readable label. Say 'college' or 'university' rather than 'institution'. Keep internal relation names out of the final answer unless the person asks how to reproduce it. Translate native grain as how detailed the record is. Explain applicability in ordinary words. Never show raw applicability or coverage enum values. A blank value is never zero and never 'missing'. State the supplied reason. If no reason accompanies a blank, say the source did not report the value. Never invent a reason. Completions are degrees a college reported in a field and year. They are not proof that a named program currently admits students. Field-to-career links are structural preparation paths, not graduate destinations. AI-use measures describe observed use, not job displacement predictions. Current catalog program names and course requirements are not in this serving snapshot. Say that plainly when a question requires current college catalog or curriculum evidence. When the overview's serving_boundaries says the requested evidence is outside the snapshot, stop after explaining that boundary. Do not resolve names or call another data tool unless it can materially answer a supported part of the question, and do not imply that an unnecessary lookup failed. edu_run_sql is the authenticated advanced fallback when the focused read-only tools cannot express the question. It runs one read-only SELECT. Inspect the selected relation with edu_describe_data before using it.

Numeric totals are valid only for additive measures and counts. Results are capped at 1000 rows (default 100, use the limit parameter). Queries have a 10-second timeout.
