Description
Citeproof verifies academic references. Paste a bibliography, a paragraph, or a single DOI, arXiv ID or PMID, and Citeproof looks each reference up in Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar. It reports whether a matching record exists, the matched title, authors, year, venue and DOI, a confidence score, and flags such as retractions. Free single lookups and reference extraction work without an account, under a shared hourly cap. Sign in to run full bibliography checks, keep a history of past checks, and export results as Markdown, CSV or BibTeX. find_claim_evidence fetches a paper's abstract and returns the sentences related to a claim. Signed-in accounts get a monthly allowance of checks. Citeproof calls third-party scholarly APIs (Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex, doi.org) to resolve records.

Auth, tools, and actions
Authentication: Open Access. No special capability flags are currently listed. Current MCP inventory reports 8 tools, 0 resources, and 0 prompts.
- Check citations · Read-only action
Checks each reference in a pasted text against Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar and reports whether a matching record was found, with the matched title, year and DOI. Uses one check per call and saves the result to the account's history. Returns usage (checks remaining this month). When the account's monthly allowance is used up, returns an error whose limit_message states when checks reset.
- Export a past check · Read-only action
Returns one of this account's saved checks as Markdown, CSV or BibTeX text. Uses no checks.
- Extract references · Read-only action
Lists the references in a pasted text: reference-list entries, DOIs, arXiv IDs, PMIDs and in-text (Author, Year) citations. Parsing only; it looks nothing up and uses no checks. Works without sign-in.
- Check a claim against a paper's abstract · Read-only action
Answers questions such as "does the abstract of <paper> support <claim>?" for a paper identified by DOI, arXiv ID or pasted abstract. Fetches the paper's abstract from the scholarly indexes and returns the abstract sentences most related to the claim, quoted verbatim with the paper's title and source, plus any numbers in the claim that the abstract does not contain. Abstract only; it gives no true or false verdict. Uses one check. Returns usage (checks remaining this month). When the account's monthly allowance is used up, returns an error whose limit_message states when checks reset.
- Get a past check · Read-only action
Returns the full results of one of this account's saved checks by run_id.
- Show checks remaining · Read-only action
Returns how many checks this account has used and has left in the current month, and when the count resets. Uses no checks.
- List past checks · Read-only action
Lists this account's saved citation checks, newest first, with run_id, date and summary counts.
- Look up one reference · Read-only action
Looks up a single reference, DOI, arXiv ID or PMID and returns the best matching record with a confidence score. Works without sign-in under a shared hourly cap (run_id follow-ups need an account). With a signed-in account it uses one check, unless run_id names one of this account's checks from the last 24 hours (up to 60 follow-ups per check). Returns usage. When the account's monthly allowance is used up, returns an error whose limit_message states when checks reset.

Server Instructions
Citeproof looks up references against Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar and keeps a history of the account's checks. extract_references and single lookups (resolve_reference) also work without sign-in; free anonymous lookups share an hourly cap across all visitors. find_claim_evidence fetches a paper's abstract and returns the sentences related to a claim. Each signed-in account has a monthly allowance of checks. Metered tools report the checks remaining; when the allowance is used up they return an error whose limit_message states when checks reset.
